CLASS DISMISSED

CLASS DISMISSED:
A critical look at the textbook industry and the portrayal of history

Thursday, December 6
5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Julia Richman Education Complex
317 E. 67th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenue), Room 418

Seating is limited. Please RSVP to sally@teachersunite.net. If you require
childcare to attend this event, please RSVP by November 21.

This event is the second in a series of forums by Teachers Unite to discuss the
impact of privatization and the corporate model on classroom life. Class
Dismissed provides a critical analysis of how US history is taught in high
schools, specifically via the textbook. It contains in depth interviews with
leaders in history education, including Howard Zinn and James Loewen, public
school teachers, and the students themselves. Class Dismissed discusses how
issues of race, class, and gender are often downplayed or ignored in textbooks
in the quest to present a patriotic picture of American society.
Produced in 2004 by Paper Tiger. Run time: 28 minutes.

This event is co-sponsored by NYCoRE!
